Use Slashbooks in Claude and ChatGPT
Connect your own Claude or ChatGPT account to one company in Slashbooks. Then say "Update my books." Your assistant can refresh permitted sources, run work that you already approved, update the books within your limits, and tell you what still needs a person.
Before you start
- You need a Slashbooks account. Request access if you do not have one.
- Accountants, firm owners, and owners who keep their own books in Slashbooks can connect. If your accounting firm invited you, ask the firm to give you access.
- Each connection works on one company. To use a second company, connect again and choose it.
- The hosted connector needs no local CLI or Python installation.
Slashbooks is not listed in the Claude or ChatGPT directories yet. Use the custom connector steps below. If a Slashbooks directory listing becomes available later, you can select it instead of adding the address yourself.
Connect in Claude
This works in claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude mobile. The connector address is https://slashbooks.co/mcp.
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Select Add custom connector, enter the name Slashbooks and the connector address, and select Add.
- Select Connect.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector first. Then each member selects Connect.
Connect in ChatGPT
- Open ChatGPT in the browser and go to the plugins page.
- Select Add custom MCP server, enter the name Slashbooks and the connector address in Connection, and select Create as a plugin.
- Select Connect.
Your workspace rules can limit custom connectors. If you do not see the option, ask your workspace owner.
Sign in to Slashbooks
Claude or ChatGPT opens a Slashbooks page in your browser.
- Sign in to Slashbooks, if the page asks. Use your usual 2-step sign-in.
- Choose the company. A connection covers one company only.
- Check the app name and the list Your agent can.
- Select Allow access. You go back to your assistant.
To use another company, connect again and choose that company.
What you can ask
- "Update my books."
- "Sync my connected bank and tell me what needs my attention."
- "Import this statement and show me anything that does not tie out."
- "What questions does Slashbooks have for me?"
- "Show last month's report and forecast my cash for the next 90 days."
- "What is missing before September is ready to close?"
- "Here is the receipt for the Delta flight. Add it to my books."
What the assistant can do
- Read reports and records, answer questions about the books, forecast cash, and check close readiness.
- Refresh a bank, Stripe, or QuickBooks source that you connected and allowed it to use.
- Run the exact bookkeeping routine that a person already approved.
- Upload and import a checked bank or card statement, and check statement coverage.
- Prepare suggestions, record permitted entries, reconcile accounts, and correct permitted errors.
- Ask, answer, and resolve bookkeeping questions, and add supporting documents.
- Work with bills, invoices, payments, and adjusting entries after you grant the extra permission.
What still needs a person
- A person publishes or reopens a month.
- A person changes access, what Slashbooks may do, or the approved routine.
- The assistant cannot approve a suggestion that it made itself. Other approvals follow the authority and limits that you set.
- A person handles a protected company, tax, or bookkeeping choice when Slashbooks asks for review.
- It cannot move money. Slashbooks has only read-only access to your bank.
- It cannot delete your company.
Slashbooks applies the same approvals, amount limits, closed-month rules, and checks whether work starts in the app or in your assistant.
Allow new permissions
An existing connection keeps only the permissions that you already allowed. Slashbooks never adds new permissions silently.
- Open the new access request shown by your assistant. It may ask you to select Connect again.
- Sign in, choose the same company, and read the new list Your agent can.
- Select Allow access only if you want to grant the listed work.
Recording bills, invoices, payments, and adjusting entries is an extra permission. Open the separate access request shown by your assistant to allow this work. You can keep using all other permitted work without granting it.
AI credits
Your assistant's bookkeeping calls and an approved routine that it starts do not use Slashbooks AI credits. A separate Cloud feature that says it uses AI credits, such as reading a PDF statement, still uses them.
Your data
- The assistant sees only the company that you chose and only the kinds of work that you allowed. What you share goes to Anthropic or OpenAI under your own account and their terms.
- Text in transactions, emails and documents comes from other people. Slashbooks gives it to your assistant as data, not as instructions.
- Everything the assistant does in Slashbooks shows in Activity, with its name.
- A connection ends 30 days after you allow it. Then you allow access again.
- How Slashbooks uses your data is in the Privacy Policy and on Security.
Use the standard desktop plugin
Claude Code and Codex users can also install the standard Slashbooks plugin. It supports both Slashbooks Cloud and local open source books. Follow the manual installation steps in the open source Slashbooks repository.
Disconnect
- In Slashbooks, open Settings, then Developer. In Connected agents, find Claude (connector) or ChatGPT (connector) and select Revoke. Access ends at once.
- You can also remove Slashbooks in Claude or ChatGPT.
If something goes wrong
- If the page says "This sign-in request is not available", it expired. Select Connect again.
- If the assistant says a permission is missing, follow Allow new permissions above.
- If the books changed while the assistant was working, ask it to refresh and try the step again.
- If the assistant says that the connection ended, select Connect again. A connection ends 30 days after you allow it.
- If you see "You do not have a company where you can connect an agent", ask your firm owner for access.
- For other problems, see Support.
